BATHINDA: Mansa police have seized Rs 3 crore in cash from a couple travelling in a car in the district on Tuesday evening. The Income Tax department has been informed about the seizure of money which has been sealed. The couple claims the money belonged to a friend who is into building construction business. The police are further probing the matter.
Mansa SSP Mandhir Singh said, "Police had laid a barrier at village Bhainibagha and suspecting a couple travelling in an Etios Toyota car, signaled them to stop. The couple identified themselves as Nirmal Singh and Sukhchain Kaur of Sirsa in Haryana, who were going to village Daliewala in Mansa. Upon searching the vehicle the police recovered Rs 2.99 crore in new currency in the denomination of Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 stashed in two bags. The couple failed to give satisfactory explanation about the source of the money and only claimed that the money belonged to one of their friends who was into construction business. Not satisfied with it the police counted the money in the presence of district authorities and seized it under Section 102 of CrPC."
The I-T authorities will now investigate about the source of money, the SSP added.
