The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the death of a 24-year-old man at a Ford dealership near Richmond, Va., after a workplace accident Monday afternoon.
An OSHA spokeswoman told Automotive News Tuesday that the investigation by a local OSHA office may take up to six months. OSHA declined to comment while the investigation is underway. The investigation is independent from the one Henrico County Police conducted Monday.
Henrico County Police spokeswoman Lt. Lauren Hummel told Automotive News Tuesday that emergency crews were called around 1:20 p.m. local time to Bill Talley Ford after reports of an accident. Hummel said the victim died at the scene and was not taken to the hospital. Henrico County Police later identified the victim as Jamison Paul Garrett, of Hanover. Police said they had no more information for the public.
Bill Talley Ford General Manager Chris Smith told Automotive News in an email Tuesday that Garrett was a dealership employee but did not confirm Garrett's position. Smith declined to comment further out of "respect to our employee's family."
The accident's cause was unclear. Images of the scene obtained by CBS 6 Studio Monday showed a severely damaged garage service door with shattered windows.
