'Mercedes Mum' in court after 200km/h luxury car police chase

A woman accused of leading a high-speed police chase at Helensburgh in a $260,000 car is making the most of her newfound infamy, renting a $2550 dress for a brief appearance at Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday morning and fanning attention with a new social media moniker – Mercedes Mum.

Margarita Tomovska departed the courthouse in Christian Louboutin stilettos, declining media questions despite having adopted a “come at me” persona on Instagram of late.

The 27-year-old allegedly sparked a police chase the night of November 13, after patrolling officers from gangs squad Strike Force Raptor spotted her high-performance car – a Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG - on the Princes Motorway.

Police will allege Tomovska pulled over to the roadside, only to then take off, continuing northbound at speeds of up to 200km/h before coming to a stop almost 10 kilometres away.

Tomovska and a male passenger were arrested as they got out of the car. The man was later released without charge.

Tomovska, of Alfords Point in southern Sydney, went quiet online for a time but re-emerged on Instagram a month later, apparently anticipating new opportunities to flow from her first court appearance.

“It’s been an overwhelming past few weeks,” she wrote.

“Thanks for everyone’s messages and support," she added, adding a (since defunct) link to a friend who would “will be managing my PR business and fan mail queries moving forth”.

Tomovska is charged with driving dangerously during a police pursuit, and speeding at more than 45km/h over the limit.

She did not enter a plea in court on Tuesday, before the matter was adjourned to February 19.

After leaving court she took to Instagram to share a photograph of herself and details of her court outfit, including a Balmain dress apparently rented from a hire company, and Gucci shades worth upwards of $1000.
