Crime branch to probe ‘murder’ of Pankaj Ambhore
TNN | Jan 9, 2019, 03:46 ISTNagpur: The mysterious death of Pankaj Ambhore will finally be probed as a murder by the crime branch, which registered a case on Monday. The crime branch has also taken the paramour of Pankaj’s wife Manisha, Arun Mishra, into custody for his alleged involvement in the crime.
Pankaj’s death in December was treated as a suicide by Pachpaoli police, who had registered a case of accidental death. The case was transferred to crime branch by city police chief BK Upadhyay following allegations against Pachpaoli police by Pankaj’s kin. Pachpaoli police had then arrested Pankaj’s wife Manisha, who crime branch is now expected to re-arrest.
Pankaj had been rushed to Mayo Hospital by wife Manisha, claiming he had met with a road accident. Later, she had changed her statement to say Pankaj had inflicted injuries on himself with stones following a tiff with her. Senior officials claimed Pachpaoli police had ignored several contradictions in her statement for reasons best known to them. She had claimed Pankaj was lying injured on Kamptee Road with injuries on the head.
DCP, Crime, Sambhaji Kadam said the cell phone tower location of Mishra and Manisha were found in north Nagpur where Pankaj was found dead. “Manisha’s contradictory statements have left us suspicion about her and Mishra,” he said.
