Guy's Grocery Games

7Food, 6pm

It's possible to justify any foolhardy enterprise on the basis of charity, which puts Guy's Grocery Games on a par with rowing the Atlantic in a bathtub to raise money for children's cancer research. The premise of the vanity vehicle for US celebrity chef Guy Fieri: a bunch of professional cooks compete for the chance of winning $40,000 for their favourite cause as they tackle various shopping and cooking challenges inside a supermarket. What emerges is a paean to the uglier impulses of American domestic gastronomy, with challenges such as preparing the bombastic Fieri a dish made out of frozen cheese. Despair, all ye who look upon this.

The Family Law (new season)

SBS, 8.30pm

The miracle of streaming delivers the entire final season of The Family Law to SBS On Demand, with the domestic comedy troupe consisting of the fictional alter egos of Benjamin Law and his family finding a pleasantly soft-focused end. The six-episode story arc focuses its energies on young Benjamin (Trystan Go) as he faces the torture of teen parties and the prospect of coming out to his family, both with the help of best friend Melissa (Bethany Whitmore), while mother Jenny (Fiona Choi) explores life back on the dating scene. If The Family Law doesn't make you want to be a sexually confused teenager living on the Sunshine Coast with your semi-insane first and second-generation Australian-Chinese family, nothing will.
