One of Australia's most notorious bikies is back on the streets after spending seven years behind bars.

Troy Mercanti was released from prison on Thursday after serving his sentence for the vicious beatings of his partner Tammy Kingdon, according to Perth Now

The 51-year-old was already behind bars for breaching his home detention conditions when he was sentenced for the savage attacks in March 2013.

Mercanti had tested positive for methamphetamines while on bail awaiting the trial.

Judge Simon Stone called Mercanti a 'deceitful coward' for the attacks during sentencing and warned police that he would be a threat to her once he was released.

During the trial, Ms Kingdon, who gave evidence via video from a secret location, told the court Mercanti had punched, kicked, and king hit her - leaving her with a fractured cheekbone and broken ribs.

A key piece of evidence at the trial was his own mother testifying that she had witnessed him punch Ms Kingdon hard enough to knock out a tooth at a Christmas gathering.

He has a long history of violent incidents including in 2007 when he broke a man's jaw during a brawl in the inner northern Perth suburbs.

In 2008 he was hospitalised after being bashed by over a dozen members of his own club and in 2010 he was involved in a shootout when he was turfed out of the Coffin Cheaters and joined the Finks motorcycle club.
