GoaMiles taxi driver assaulted at Baga

CALANGUTE: Calangute police have registered an offence against eight persons for allegedly forming unlawful assembly, wrongfully restraining, abusing and further threatening with dire consequences and assaulting a taxi driver employed under GoaMiles.

As per PI Jivba Dalvi, a complaint has been lodged by a taxi driver, Shamsuddin Kazi, a resident of Macazana-Salcete, that he was assaulted by eight taxi drivers when he had gone to Baga to pick up a customer.

Shamsuddin Kazi is a cabbie registered under the GoaMiles taxi app and on January 4, he had got a notification from a customer requesting for a pick up from a resort at Baga.

Accordingly, he had proceeded to Baga to pick up his customer when two taxi drivers wrongfully restrained him and then called another six taxi drivers and assaulted him with fist blows and slaps and threatened him with dire consequences, the police said.

Two accused drivers, who restrained and assaulted Kazi, have been summoned by the police for investigation, it is learnt.

Police have written to the directorate of transport for cancelation of the taxi permit of both the accused tax drivers involved in the incident.  Further investigation is in progress.
