Goa boys and girls win silver at tennis ball cricket

PANAJI: Goa boys and girls settled for silver in their respective categories at the 64th School National U-17 Tennis Ball Cricket Games, at Khandwa Madhya Pradesh on Monday. Goa boys went down to Chhattisgarh by 16 runs in the final, while the girls too faltered in the finals as they lost to hosts Madhya Pradesh by 6 runs.

Marina English HS reach Baptist memorial football final

CHICALIM: Marina English HS entered the finals of the 5th Baptist Fernandes Memorial inter school football tournament, organised by Goa Soccer Center for Boys U-12, as they defeated Perpetual Succour HS, Navelim 1-0 in the Group A semifinal match played at the panchayat ground, Chicalim on Monday. Jodrich Abranches scored the all-important goal for the winners. Earlier in the first quarterfinal, Marina English beat Our Lady of Health School, Cuncolim 5-4 via tie breaker after the teams played out a 2-2 draw in the regulation time. In the second quarterfinal, Perpetual Succour School defeated St Joseph’s School Calangute 4-0.

Ambelim SC squeeze into semis

BETALBATIM: Ambelim SC moved into the semifinals of Martins Cup football tournament after beating Sporting Club of Davorlim 7-6 via tie-breaker, at panchayat grounds, Betalbatim on Monday. The teams played a goalless draw during the regulation time. In the tie-breaker, Ambelim SC proved to be the better shooters.

Ibtisam Shaikh to lead Goa U-16 girls

Porvorim: Ibtisam Shaikh will lead Goa U-16 girls team for South Zone cricket tournament to be held at Pondicherry from January 11 to 20. Team: Ibtisam Shaikh (Captain), Urvashi Govekar, Taniya Pawar, Analiz Gomes, Anita Choudhary, Riya Naik, Shivani Naik, Roshni Parab, Ridah Shaikh, Mrunmayee Bhike, Pooja Nishad, Riya Dhoble, Sejal Shetty, Savli Kolambkar, Lavanyalaxmi Narse, Sejal Naik and Roshni Verma. Radhakrisha Dhuri is the coach and Veena Phadte is the Convenor.

Snooker selection trials for women

PORVORIM: The Billiards and Snooker Association of Goa will conduct snooker trials for women on January 9 to select core probables for the coaching camp of the 36th National Games to be held in March-April this year. The trials will be conducted at the BSAG Cue Sports Academy, Athletics Stadium, Bambolim. Players should report at the academy at 5 pm.

Chess tourney at Mala-Panaji

PANAJI: Tiswadi Taluka Chess Association will organise ‘Late Smt Taramati Candolkar Memorial’ Goa State U-7 Open and Girls Chess Championship/Selection 2019 on January 12 and 13 at Mahalaxmi Vachan Mandir Hall, Mala-Panaji. Players born on or after January 1, 2012 may submit their entries, with birth certificate proof, on or before January 11 by 5 pm to Arvind Mhamal (9422386547) or (Dattaram Pinge). This is a selection tournament for the National U-7 Open & Girls Chess Championship 2019 to be held in Kolkata, West Bengal from May 30 to June 7.
