NEW DELHI: Bullet-ridden bodies of two youths were found dumped at a desolate stretch of Nangloi-Najafgarh Road near outer Delhi’s Ranhola on Sunday night. The victims were friends and had left their house hours before their bodies were discovered.

DCP (outer) Seju Kuruvilla said the victims have been identified as Deepak (21) and Neeraj (21) and a murder case has been registered.

In early findings, police said that Neeraj, who earlier used to work at a fast food joint in Janakpuri, called Deepak on phone and asked him to accompany him. Deepak’s mother told police that some time after he went out, Deepak called her asking her to prepare dinner for him, stating that he would return soon.

Around 10pm, Deepak’s mother called on his mobile phone. But it was answered by a police officer, who informed her about the murder. Policemen said that the two were found near the edge of a road near Baprola village in a pool of blood. Both had been shot from close range and possibly beaten up as well, police said.

A forensic team that visited the crime scene found shards of broken glass — suspected to be from the windshield of a car — and also empty bullet cartridges.

While all angles are being probed, cops suspect that the murder could be a fallout of personal enmity between Deepak and a resident of Baprola village. Deepak, who is a native of the village, reportedly got involved in a scuffle with one of his neighbours about a week ago.

Deepak’s mother said that her son was accused of stealing from a neighbour’s car, following which an altercation took place between the two. Cops would ask the neighbour to join in the investigation to probe his involvement.

Police are scanning CCTV footage of the area where the bodies were dumped. The victims’ mobile phones are also being scanned to get a list of people who had contacted the duo. Cops said that Deepak was working as a cab driver.
