Two Irish men, 21 and 24, are charged with murder after a man, 66, found critically injured on the side of the road dies in hospital a week later

Two Irish nationals have had their charges upgraded to murder following the death of a 66-year-old man on Monday morning.

Christopher McLaughlin, 24 and Nathan Kelly, 21, from Ireland were initially charged with reckless grievous bodily harm in company and affray. 

The victim was rushed to hospital but died from his injuries at around 8.30am on Monday morning, nine days after the attack.

Emergency services were called to an intersection in Summer Hill in Sydney at about 12:30am on Saturday, December 29

Emergency services were called to an intersection in Summer Hill in Sydney at 12:30am on Saturday, December 29, where they found the 66-year-old man in a critical condition at the side of the road.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being rushed to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he later died. 

Neither of the attackers were known to the victim. 

The two men in their 20s were arrested by detectives from Burwood Police Area Command at the time. 

The men, both Irish nationals, were charged with murder on Monday. 

Both men were refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday. 

They remain in custody and are due to appear at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday.
