MUMBAI: A 65-year-old Delhi businessman was arrested for allegedly molesting an Indian-origin woman from Singapore on a Delhi-Mumbai Vistara Airlines flight on Monday. The 41-year-old woman had brought the harassment by Anilkumar Mulchandani to the notice of the crew during the flight itself.
When the flight landed at CSIA around 12.30pm, Mulchandani was taken to Sahar police station where an FIR was filed against him. A staffer of Vistara Airlines flight UK 995 informed police about the incident.
The woman, who has been living in Singapore, travels frequently to Mumbai to meet her family members residing at Dadar. The accused has been shown arrested late Monday. He will be produced before the Andheri metropolitan magistrate court on Tuesday,” said Lata Shirsat, senior inspector of Sahar police station.
In the complaint, the victim has stated, “After boarding the flight, I got my centre seat exchanged with my copassenger who had a window seat. As the flight took off, the elderly man started touching me inappropriately. I brought this to the notice of the airline crew 10 minutes before the flight was to land in Mumbai.”
A police officer said the woman has claimed she warned Mulchandani at least twice. She decided to take it up with airline crew when her warnings went unheeded.
Mulchandani was booked under IPC Section 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman).
