Rampant commercialisation and violation of zonal regulations were the main topic of discussion at a meeting between Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara, who is also the Bengaluru Development Minister, and representatives from iChange Indiranagar, a residents’ welfare group, here on Monday.
At the meeting, residents complained about the brazen violation of zonal regulations and how several establishments were functioning with a single licence. They also pointed out that more than 10 bars and pubs were operating on certain stretches.
After listening to the issues raised by the residents, Dr. Parameshwara said action against establishments violating zonal regulations had already been initiated. He conceded that there were many establishments that were functioning in residential areas without the requisite permission from civic agencies. “We plan to bring in place stringent norms, with strict punitive clauses. I will meet with the authorities of all the civic agencies concerned soon in this regard,” he assured residents.
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad, who was also present, said, “A meeting had been convened on Tuesday to discuss the modalities of implementing and enforcing the same.” Senior officials from BBMP, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Bangalore Development Authority, and Bangalore Electricity Supply Company were present at the meeting.
