When crowd mobbed Ganesh Mondal for selfies!

Director Kaushik Ganguly was in for a surprise as he stepped inside Nandan for the premiere of Bijoya. He was mobbed by fans for selfies as they kept screaming ‘Ganesh Mondal, Ganesh Mondal’ (his screen name in the film) on Friday evening. Needless to say, the director-actor obliged them all with a smile. Kaushik, who was dressed for the occasion and paired his black kurta-pyjama with a Jawahar coat, had to answer a few questions on his latest avatar. “This is called chance pe dance. My hero, Abir Chatterjee, is shooting elsewhere and could not make it to the premiere, so I thought of impressing all by dressing up. With Abir around, no one gives me a second glance,” said Kaushik with a hearty laugh.
The director-actor added that this being the first Bengali release of 2019, he wanted everyone to catch the film in theatres. “The film will answer their queries about Padma, Ganesh Mondal and Nasir Ali,” he said. When asked if the sequel to Bijoya will be Lakshmi Puja, Kaushik smiled and said, “Hotei pare.”
Jaya Ahsan, looking beautiful in a tussar sari, said, “I hope Kaushikda makes a sequel of Bijoya so that Padma remains alive in the audience’s heart. I was only concerned about the continuity in Padma’s body language, mannerisms and acting. But Ganesh Mondal stole the show and so did Nasir Ali. Mamata Shankar gave me the biggest compliment that I express a lot without saying much; I guess that’s a big thing for any actor.”
Rudranil Ghosh said the film is all heart. “The subtleness of love and longing is something Bijoya deals with. The equation between Padma, Ganesh Mondal and Nasir Ali is also well balanced.”
