Nalanda man poisons three kids, one dies

BIHARSHARIF: One Umesh Prasad poisoned his three children and himself attempted suicide on Monday. Police sources said one of the children named Ayush died during treatment at Rajgir sub-divisional hospital, while others’ condition was said to be stable.

Umesh lives in a hut on the Rajgir post office road with his wife and children. His wife Gudia Devi said he worked in a local stone quarry, but lost his job recently and the family was facing starvation. She said the family had no card meant for the poor.

Refuting her charges of not having facilities under social security schemes, Rajgir DSP Somnath Prasad said Umesh was mentally unstable. He said further investigation would reveal the facts.

Gudia said when she returned from some work, all the four were lying in a critical condition. She asked neighbours for help and they took them to a nearby clinic where Ayush breathed his last.
