Nine held for stealing milk from Banas Dairy unit

Palanpur: As many as nine persons were arrested for allegedly pilfering milk from tankers of Banas Dairy from its Faridabad-based unit in Haryana. Though this racket came to light in November last year, the accused were arrested recently by the police and the dairy officials disclosed it only on Sunday.

According to Banas Dairy officials, the accused had been stealing milk from tankers for over a month before it was reported to authorities. The accused had pilfered milk worth Rs 1.29crore. In quantity term the stolen milk could have filled 15 tankers, said Banas Dairy officials. The nine accused include tanker’s driver and employees of dairy’s Faridabad unit. The police also recovered Rs 80 lakhs cash from the accused. The dairy officials have withheld the transporter’s deposit and bill amount totalling Rs 1.34 core.


The Haryana police had arrested the accused last week after probing complaint filed by the dairy officials.


The police first arrested the tanker’s driver Mahesh Chaudary and upon his interrogation name of eight others were revealed.
