CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu youth welfare and sports development minister P Balakrishnan Reddy on Monday submitted his resignation letter to chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami. The move comes hours after a special court trying criminal cases against elected representatives convicted Reddy in a 1998 riot case and sentenced him to three years of imprisonment.

Reddy is the first minister to have been convicted by the special court.

“Reddy submitted the letter to chief minister and it has been forwarded to Raj Bhavan,” a government source said.
