A seemingly trivial thing like a lane change can have big consequences if it’s poorly executed.

The following video is a painful reminder of that and should be used for educational purposes so that aspiring drivers can realize how costly mistakes behind the wheel can be.

In the footage captured by a dashcam on a highway in Colorado, the camera car is seen driving on lane 3 when, for whatever reason, the driver decides to merge to lane 2.

While he/she is certainly entitled to change lanes, the video shows there was plenty of room ahead and the car in front was traveling at a similar speed. The camera car didn’t even complete the maneuver when all hell broke loose.

A Ford Mustang and VW Golf were approaching too fast and got seemingly taken by surprise. As there wasn’t enough space for both cars on lane 1, they crashed in spectacular fashion. The Mustang took out a red Chevy Malibu, while the Golf started performing a series of involuntary Tokyo Drift antics.

The Mustang driver commented on YouTube that the Golf driver was to blame because he switched lanes from 2 to 1 to bypass the cammer without making sure that it was safe to do so. Obviously, the Golf made a reckless lane change, but the Mustang was also driving too fast to avoid getting tangled up in that accident.
