A software engineer was robbed of his valuables after his attention was diverted on Friday evening.

C.K. Vikas, 34, a software engineer was at the KSRTC bus stand at Wilson Garden with his mother to board a bus to their hometown in Kerala. Two men approached his mother and informed that her sari was soiled. She handed over her handbag to Vikas and went to the washroom to clean it.

Within seconds, the duo dropped a few currency notes and asked Vikas to pick them up.

“He placed his bag on top of his luggage to collect the notes. When he looked back, the bag and the men were gone,” said a police officer. The bag contained a gold bracelet, an ATM card, ₹4,500 in cash and house keys.

In another incident, G.S. Narasimha Murthy was returning home on his scooter on Friday evening after withdrawing his pension from a bank in J.P. Nagar when two men on a motorcycle informed that a few notes had fallen from the scooter. The 64-year-old pulled up to the side of the road to pick up the notes. When he returned, his wallet containing ₹15,000 and his ATM card were missing. Later, ₹1 lakh was withdrawn from his bank account. He had typed his PIN number on the ATM card.
