Flesh trade racket busted in Calangute; 2 women rescued

CALANGUTE: Police have busted a prostitution racket in Calangute on Saturday evening and arrested a pimp Samrat (30) a resident of Haryana.

According to PI Jivba Dalvi the police came to know about a pimp operating in Candolim and Calangute areas and based on intelligence had collected specific details.

Further, on Saturday evening reliable information was received regarding the accused pimp coming to deliver the two girls to a customer for the purpose of prostitution. Accordingly a team consisting of police staff, panchayat members and an NGO was formed to nab the pimp and rescue the victims.

A decoy customer was sent and when the accused arrived on a Fascino scooter, the two-wheeler was intercepted and the accused was nabbed.

During the raid 3 mobile phones, Rs 10,000 cash and a Fascino scooter was attached under the panchanama.

An offence under Section 370, 370 (3) IPC and Section 4, 5, 7 of Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act has been registered. The raid went on from 8.30 pm to 10.15 pm.

The victim girls from Haryana and Mumbai have been lodged in the state protective home at Merces for safe custody and protection.

The raiding team was led by PI Jivba Dalvi and consisted of PSI Sitaram Malik, head constable Subhash Mavlankar, constables Vidyanand Amonkar, Amir Naik, lady constables Gita Chawhan, Mamta Gaude and NGO Hope Foundation members Andrea Pereira.
