Man booked for rape three months after suicide

SURAT: A love story of a 22-year-old man and a 13-year-old girl took a dramatic turn when the teenager decided to lodge a rape complaint against him despite he having committed suicide three months ago and also his seven family members here on Saturday. The relationship was not acceptable to the girl’s family since she was minor, though both the lovers belonged to the same caste.

Ajay Buha and his seven family members, including parents, aunt, brothers and their wives, were booked at Sarthana police station on the basis of complaint of the girl. The complainant has alleged that she was raped by the accused at different locations in the city six months ago. The girl has alleged in her complaint that she was first raped by Ajay by threatening to kill her brother and that the other accused had helped him by offering him a place to sexually assault her. The accused were booked for rape and sexual assault under Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Police investigation revealed that Ajay committed suicide at Visavadar in Junagadh district after being thrashed by the girl’s father and brother when they came to know about their relationship.

Ajay’s family lodged a complaint of abetment to suicide at Visavadar police station against the girl’s family. They alleged he committed suicide because he was thrashed by the girl’s family members.

“It seems that the girl has lodged the complaint under family pressure. Since the girl’s family members were booked for abetment to suicide, they too have lodged a counter complaint,” said a police officer in Sarthana police station.
