As part of the ongoing tests being administered to sections of staff, the Raj Nivas was the venue for a written exam for all station house police officers on Sunday.
Besides the written test, the attendees were also asked about their exposure to past training and to specify areas of learning they wanted from the department. Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi, who has been driving these tests across government departments, said that a police training policy would be formulated by the Police Headquarters based on the needs expressed by the station house officers (SHO). The analysis of test results clearly indicated the need for more training in investigation skills, cybercrime, forensics, community policing, specific laws and personal skills. Since resources are deficient at the Puducherry police, efforts will need to be made to collaborate closely with the Tamil Nadu police due to proximity besides shared language and culture, a press note from the Raj Nivas said.
SWOT analysis
A Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis was also held to analyse strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the Police Department. This would drive corrective strategies by the headquarters besides identifying specific support needed from the Home Department. Inspector Genral of Police S.S. Yadav, Senior Superintendent of Police Apoorva Gupta, Rahul Alwal and senior gazetted officers supervised the examination.
