Bhiwandi : Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) youth wing leader Haroon Khan from Bhiwandi East was arrested on Friday night in an alleged power theft case. He was produced in a court on Saturday and sent to judicial custody till January 18. Torrent Power Ltd supplies power across the Bhiwandi city and Bhiwandi rural.
Chetan Daliyan, PRO, Torrent Power Limited, said, “At his office, situated at New Kaneri area in Bhiwandi, Haroon Khan on November 6, last year, was allegedly tryning to get a power connection from distribution box. Vigilance officers approached the spot and found him stealing electricity. The amount of power theft totalled Rs92,000. He has not paid the bill, after which a legal action was taken by the company.”
Dinesh Katke, senior inspector from Kumbharwada police station, said, “He failed to deposit security amount in the court, which sent him to judicial custody.” In August 9, 2018, famous Marathi orchestra singer Santosh alias Dadus Mahatre were nabbed by Vigilance Department for stealing power worth Rs3.66 lakh.
