21-yr-old arrested for raping 15-yr-old girl; another youth booked for kidnapping

CANACONA: Barely days after the rape of a 48-year-old British national in Canacona, another rape involving a15-year-old girl has come to the fore in the taluka.

Canacona police have arrested a youth for allegedly raping the minor girl.

The police informed that one 21-year-old youth by name Sameer was arrested for allegedly forcefully raping the girl for past three months. The victim girl with the help of an NGO filed a complaint against Sameer as he had been allegedly sexually using her on the pretext of marrying her. She was allegedly raped by him on a number of occasions, the police said. The girl is a school dropout and was staying with her aunt due to the separation of her parents.

The police informed that Sameer has been arrested and booked under IPC Section 376, Sections 4, 17 of POCSO and Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act for the various offences committed. The alleged accused was arrested on Friday night and produced before JMFC, Margao on Saturday who remanded him in police custody till 8th of January.

The victim girl was sent for medical examination and later sent to Apna Ghar, Merces.

Police further said that another male friend of the same victim has been absconding as a complaint of kidnapping stands registered against him by the victim’s aunt.

Police said that one Ramdit has been booked under IPC Section 363 and Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act for kidnapping the minor girl. He was yet to be arrested.

A complaint was filed against Ramdit as the girl did not return home on Thursday till late evening. According to the complainant, her niece informed her that she was not feeling well and had gone to a doctor in Chaudi-Canacona.
