Narendra Nayak re-elected president of Indian Rationalist Association

MANGALURU: Narendra Nayak, president, Federation of Indian Rationalist Association, has been re-elected as the president of the Association again at its 11th general body held at Ukku Nagaram, Vishakpattanam on Sunday.
Nayak said during the meet major resolutions were passed that include condemning attacks , threats and filing false cases on rationalists; condemning promotion of quack remedies un-scientific statements and deviation of funds from education and scientific research to un-scientific concepts and methods supporting superstitions.
Other resolutions are: condemning clandestine inclusion of un-scientific, non-scientific and personal beliefs like astrology into curriculum of schools, boards and universities; condemning unscientific statements made by the Vice Chancellor of the Andhra University at the recently held at National Science Congress and attacks on the judiciary and constitution of India in the name of religious sentiments.
The resolution also condemned attacks on women based on religion, caste, gender and the criminal acts like mob lynching, honor killings withe support of the ruling party also politicizing and non- adherence to Supreme court verdict in the recent entry of women to Sabarimala temple.
The resolution demanded more allocation of funds to science communication and scientific research in the budget and implementation of the 2013 Supreme Court judgment on demolition of unauthorized places of worship built on public land.
The general body also resolved to strive hard to succeed in the mission to implement the aims and objectives of FIRA and to pursue them vigorously.
