Windies offspinner Shane Shillingford has been suspended from bowling in domestic cricket as his action was found illegal, Cricket West Indies confirmed on Friday (January 4). According to an independent assessment, the bowler’s deliveries exceeded the 15 degrees level of tolerance permitted under playing regulations.

Shillingford was reported for a suspect action during the first match of Windies domestic four-day tournament playing for Winward Islands. He took 5/115 in the match, but his side suffered a 125-run loss against Guyana.

A report from the board suggests that Shillingford would remain suspended until his action is found legal again. He can apply for a reassessment after changing the action in accordance with the rules.

This is the third time that he has been found guilty of the offence. In 2010, he was suspended from bowling after independent tests in Perth. Later his action was cleared in June 2011. Again in 2013, Shillingford was suspended during the tour of New Zealand.

The bowler made his international debut in 2010 and has played 16 Tests for Windies. He bagged 70 wickets at an average of 34.55.
