Man burnt to death after car is engulfed in flames

A driver has burnt to death despite firefighters' efforts to save him after a car crashed into a tree in Brisbane's south-west.

Emergency services were called about 6.30am on Sunday to Freeman Road at Inala when firefighters found the car was well alight with a person inside.

"The car with the person was engulfed in flames and they did everything they could to fight the flames but there was no saving them," a Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokeswoman said.

QFES left the scene about 7.15am but were requested to return to Inala before 8.30am to free the person who died in the car.

"They're currently on site with their cutting gear to assist police," the spokeswoman said.

Police said there would not be any road closures in place or traffic delays.

Meanwhile on the Sunshine Coast, a man was taken to hospital in a serious condition after a collision between a vehicle and a cyclist at Maroochydore on Sunday.

Police said the collision occurred about 4.30am in the westbound lanes of Aerodrome Road near the Sizzler restaurant.

"The roadway at that location is closed for the safety of investigators and drivers are urged to consider alternative routes," a Queensland Police Service spokesman said.

The Forensic Crash Unit is continuing their investigations.
