Vadodara: A day after they were mowed down by a speeding BMW in Alkapuri, Sayajigunj police are yet to take statements of the brother-sister duo. The police said the accused identified as Rehanuddin Saiyed, who was driving the car, doesn’t have driving licence.

“Saiyed is 22 but he doesn’t have driving licence. He said that he doesn’t have much practice in driving the car and hence lost control of the vehicle,” said Haresh Vora, Sayajigunj police inspector.

Saiyed was released on bail by a local court on Sunday, Vora said. The victim duo identified as Ashish Kavaiya and Jayashri Kavaiya were operated upon for fractures. “The duo is in stable condition but we haven’t been able to take their statement,” Vora added. Saiyed, who works as a mechanic in a garage, had mowed down the duo on Dr Rustom Cama Marg. Such was the impact of the accident that a roadside pole got bent.
