2019-01-06 17:49

Durban - A defiant second innings 89 not out from Sibz Makhanya has kept the Dolphins alive in their CSA 4-Day Franchise Series clash against the Highveld Lions at Kingsmead.

The home side were bundled out for 149 in their first innings on day three with Makhanya top scoring with 38.

With a 274 run deficit to overcome after the Lions made them bat again, the Dolphins battled through the early stages of their second knock and were 33 for three.

They lost the wickets of Grant Roelofsen, Marques Ackerman and Khaya Zondo cheaply.

Sarel Erwee and Makhanya then put on 67 for the fourth wicket with the opener scoring 53 from 112 balls.

Makhanya then continued his form from the first innings to register his eight first class half century and finished the day on 89 not out.

All rounder Andile Phehlukwayo added 32 to the Dolphins’ efforts.

The Dolphins head into the fourth and final day of the clash still needing 65 runs to make the Lions bat again.

Makhanya will continue on 89 while Cody Chetty is 16 not out.
