KOLKATA: A fire at a garment showroom in Burrabazar within a kilometre of Bagri Market triggered panic in the locality around 12.45am on Saturday. Witnesses said some labourers had lit a flame just outside the shop to keep themselves warm when the fire spread to Raghav Enterprise on 10 Armenian Street stacked with denims, T-shirts and paper boxes.
No one was injured in the fire. However, the leaping flames caused cracks in the windowpanes of adjacent buildings. The fire spread to the neighbouring shops, damaging them partially. Ten fire tenders took almost four hours to douse the flames.
Showroom owner Luxmi Pasari said, "Stocks worth lakhs were gutted in the fire."
