The CPI(M) and RSS were unleashing violence and spreading unrest in the State, alleged Leader of the Opposition Ramesh Chennithala.

Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, Mr. Chennithala said the law and order system of the State had collapsed and the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was behaving like the secretary of the CPI(M).

Referring to the violence that took place in different parts of the State following the entry of two women to the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple, Mr. Chennithala said the CPI(M) was attempting to create a communal polarisation. The police and the State government failed to protect the life and property of the people, he alleged.

The Chief Minister was fanning trouble instead of attempting to ease the tension in the State. He was also out to strengthen the BJP and the RSS, he said.

The trade unions affiliated to the political parties in the UDF had been asked not to turn the two-day general strike on January 8 and 9 into hartal.

The workers had the right to protest against the wrong policies of the Modi government. However, it shall not be converted into a hartal, he said.

On January 12, the birthday of Swami Vivekananda, the UDF would organise a fast before the statue of the monk at Thiruvananthapuram. It would be followed by a collectrate march on January 23, he said.

K.V. Thomas MP and DCC president T.J. Vinod were present.
