MANGALURU: Hours after the murder of steel bar bender Rakesh, 26, police deduced the gruesome killing had taken place because he was in love with the sister of the accused Sunil.
According to police sources, Rakesh had been in love for some time with the sister of Sunil who was against the relationship. He had warned Rakesh several times but the latter ignored him.
Earlier, Sunil and Rakesh had been booked for drug abuse cases. Rakesh used to do bar bending with his father. When he fell in love with Sunil’s sister, a college student, Sunil was cooling his heels in jail. Sources said Rakesh would visit the girl at home daily.
Police said Sunil was released from jail, he again threatened Rakesh not to continue the relationship but Rakesh didn’t stop. Irked by this, he and other accomplices hatched a plot to kill him.
Sunil allegedly called Rakesh on Thursday and asked him to meet at Panjimogaru to discuss an important issue. Rakesh reached the said on his two-wheeler around 8pm.
When he arrived, Sunil and three others intercepted Rakesh and they had a verbal spat. When it escalated, the gang led by Sunil attacked him with lethal weapons and he died on the spot.
Sources added that Sunil and Rakesh had been good friends in the past but had fought over some trivial issues. Rakesh had been arrested and spent time in jail for selling ganja in Kavoor and Bengaluru. Police said that Sunil’s sister is in shock and hasn’t spoken since the incident.
