CHANDIGARH: Absconding subinspector and additional SHO of Sector 31 police station Rajbir Singh was booked under charges of attempt to murder of a CBI sub-inspector on Saturday.

Sector 31 police has registered a case under Sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty ) of the IPC in this regard.

Rajbir has also been booked by the CBI in a separate graft case.

As per the complaint, Rajbir had hit CBI SI Sunil Kumar Sharma before fleeing in his car from Hallomajra on Friday night. Sunil sustained injuries in the incident and was rushed to the hospital, while Rajbir managed to escape the CBI trap.

During investigation, PS-31 SHO Gurjeet Kaur’s name was also added in the FIR registered by the CBI. However, Gurjeet was sent to Police Lines, Sector 26, soon after the case was highlighted on Friday night. As per the transcript of a recorded call between complainant Sita Ram, a meat shop owner and Ram Darbar resident, and accused Rajbir Singh, the bribe was for Gurjeet. During the phone call, Rajbir told Sita Ram he would not get a single penny from the total amount and that all of it would go to SHO Gurjeet Kaur.
