Five held for Ballia train robbery

VARANASI: The Government Railway Police (GRP) claimed to have solved the December 30 train robbery in Ballia district with the arrest of five robbers on Saturday. Cash and valuables have also been recovered from them.
“Teams engaged to work out the dacoity in S-11 and S-12 coaches of Durg-Chhapra Sarnath Express on December 30 night have nabbed the leader, Anil Sahani alias Sonu, from Revati police station area. He divulged names and addresses of his accomplices after which GRP teams arrested Sonu Yadav, Ashutosh Tiwari, Deepak Chaurasia and Shivam Chawdhary from different localities of Revati and Fefna police station area in Ballia district,” said SP GRP (Gorakhpur) Pushpanjali.
Apart from country-made revolvers and live cartridges, GRP recovered mobile phones, bags, ATM, PAN and identity cards, cash, jewellery and articles looted from passengers. She said that two more robbers involved in this incident had been identified and efforts are being made to nab them.
Giving details of the incident, GRP sources said when the train was passing through Revati railway station on December 30, some miscreants pulled the chain and boarded it when it stopped. They entered S-11 and S-12 coaches and attacked five passengers, Dharmendra Kumar Singh, Santosh Chandra Das, Rohit Kumar and Dipu Kumar of Bihar.
