Indore: Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel inaugurated the 7th International Yoga Mahotsav organised by Parmanand Yog University at Takshashila campus in School of Commerce, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, on Saturday.
“Yoga is a gift to mankind. Practicing yoga purifies mind, body, culture and thoughts,” Governor Patel said. Addressing the gathering, Patel said yoga does not belong to any political party or to United Nations. But it is the integral part of India’s ancient history and science.
“Yoga will help in building and developing unity, peace and prosperity of our country. Yoga’s history is even found in Rigveda literature. Yoga is pure science, it cannot be linked with superstitions,” Patel said. On talking about practicing yoga, Anandiben Patel said many people confuse yoga as a physical exercise only but it improves physical and mental well being, which helps in personality development.
Parmanand Yog Trust president Dr Om Anand gave a detailed layout of events to be conducted during the two-day programme. He also highlighted importance and benefits of practicing yoga daily. DAVV vice chancellor Dr Narendra Dhakas said yoga can be the medium to bring world peace. Following the speech, students demonstrated yoga asans and related exercises.
Governor Anandiben Patel launched book, ‘Yoga the ultimate science’, written by Dr Om Anand and School of Commerce magazine ‘Disha’ during the event. The programme was also attended by Dr Satveer Khalsa from Harvard University and additional commissioner central GST Dinesh Pandharkar.
