A 75-year-old female pedestrian died in Andheri (E) on Saturday as a speeding BEST bus crushed her after she lost balance on the divider and fell.

The deceased has been identified as Kanchanben Soujibhai Mistri, a resident of Sangeena Mansion, SM Marg in Andheri. According to the police, the incident took place near Ganpati Temple at Andheri Station (East) around 11:05 am.

"At Ganpati Temple area, a female pedestrian, later identified as Mistry, lost her balance on the divider while crossing the road. She fell on the road and then came in between the rear tyres of a BEST bus (Route No - 186). The bus driven by Baban Vitthal Thorat (46) was proceeding towards Vihar Lake from Agarkar Chowk," said a police officer.

He added, Mistry sustained severe head injury and was rushed to Cooper Hospital where she was declared dead by Dr Somesh More.

"As a daily routine, Mistry goes to temple for pooja in the morning. On Saturday too, she had visited the temple and was returning home when the incident occurred. We had arrested Thorat on charges of causing death by negligence and rash and negligent driving. He was produced before a local court and was later granted bail," said the officer.
