LUCKNOW: A number of candidates from the city scored high in the Common Admission Test (CAT), the results of which were declared on Saturday. There were at least eight candidates from Lucknow who got above 99 percentile in CAT, most of them being engineering graduates.
Pulkit Sachan who scored 99.90 percentile has done BTech in petroleum engineering and opted to pursue MBA to equip himself with management skills.
“An engineer needs good management skills also. I decided to prepare for CAT so that I can get trained in the best management institute of the country,” said Pulkit Sachan, a resident of Faridinagar area.
“Performing well and scoring high in CAT is possible only when a candidate solves as many practice papers as possible. Just stick to the basics and practice maximum possible mock test series . It is the key to scoring well in CAT,” he added.
Rahul Kumar, who scored 99.74 percentile, said, “I made sure to move to the next topic only after all concepts of the first were clear. I will prepare for my interview in a similar way so that I get in IIM-Ahmedabad.”
“I don’t believe in looking for job but for creating them, hence, I am planning my own startup. I am inspired by my father who runs a business of pesticides, added Kumar, a resident of Fazullaganj.
Prateek Garg, BTech in computer science, prepared for CAT along with his job and says that taking out time for studies was not easy but he made sure to give equal time to all subjects.
“I studied in the early morning hours. Whatever time I had, I made sure not to stick to one subject only. Candidates often focus more on the section in which they think they are weak and devote less time to other sections like verbal ability and reading comprehension which they consider easy. This is where they lose marks,” said Prateek.
Anirudh Pratap Singh, who scored 99.52 percentile, is a law student. “Scoring well in CAT is only possible when one follows a time table strictly and studies for six to eight hours daily,” said Singh. Akash Jain who scored 99.14 and and Vivek Tiwari with a 99.12 percentile also dream of getting a seat in IIM-Ahmedabad. Both are planning to launch their own startups after working for a few years in multinationals.
Rahul Sharma, a teacher at a coaching institute, got 99.99 percentile.
