Mumbai : The civil work contract for the Metro Line 7 (Dahisar -East to Andheri -East) expired in December 2018, and will now be extended for another seven months — until July 2019, said RA Rajeev, Commissioner of the MMRDA. Similarly, the Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to D N Nagar) civil work contract will end in this month and will be given an extension until July 2019, as per another official of the MMRDA. The authority has awarded the civil work contract for these two metro lines in May 2016 for 30 months.

However, the contractors failed to complete the work within 30 months time limit, which was expected by the MMRDA. Moreover, the Metro Line -7 contractor was also slapped a slow work notice in August 2017. In the notices issued by the MMRDA, through its general consultant, has expressed displeasure citing inadequate deployment of resources such as machinery and manpower at the construction site. Further after notice, Pravin Darade, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner also visited the construction site to check the progress of the work being carried out there. The MMRDA has divided the civil construction of the 18.9-km-long Metro Line 7 into three packages and had appointed three contractors. The Package I, consisting of Andheri (East), Shankarwadi, JVLR Junction and Mahananda stations is being constructed by Simplex Infrastructure.

Likewise, Package II from Aarey, Pathanwadi, Pushpa Park, Bandongari to Mahindra and Mahindra stations is being constructed by J Kumar Infraprojects. NCC Ltd is the contractor for Package III, which consists of Magathane, Devipada, National Park and Ovripada stations. This corridor will have 14 stations and will be constructed at a cost of Rs6,200 crore.
The Metro Line 2A corridor civil work is being carried out by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on behalf of the MMRDA. The corridor will have 17 elevated metro stations and will be constructed at cost of Rs6,410 crore.  The daily average estimated ridership on this line once made operational will be around 4 lakh passengers. It will also be integrated with two Metro Line corridors, Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro-1 and the proposed DN Nagar-Mankhurd Metro-2B corridor.
