PCMC to construct houses for the poor and weaker sections

PUNE: Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation(PCMC) will be constructing 838 affordable houses for economically weaker sections(EWS) under Prime Minister Awas Yojana(PMAY) at Akurdi and Pimpri on the total expenditure of Rs 85.4 crore. The standing committee of PCMC approved these two projects at a meeting held on Friday that was chaired by chairperson Mamata Gaikwad.
The union government has started PMAY scheme in the country to provide affordable houses to the poor people. There are reservations in the development plan of Pimpri Chinchwad city and houses for the dishoused(HDH) for EWS and poor.
It has proposed to construct a total of 9,500 houses at 10 spots in the city under PMAY scheme. These include 1,442 houses at Charholi, 932 at Ravet, 896 at Dudulgaon, 840 at Dighi; 1,288 at Moshi-Borhadewadi; 1,400 at Wadmukhwadi; 1,400 at Chikhli and 500 each at Pimpri and Akurdi.
The civic body had prepared development project report(DPR) and sent it for approval to the state government.
Later, the union government approved it in November 2018.
Vilas Madigeri, BJP corporator and member of standing committee, PCMC said, "We approved allotment of contract for the Akurdi project of Rs 52.76 crore and that for the Pimpri project of Rs 33.64 crore. The contractors will have to complete the projects in 2.5 years."
