NEW DELHI: The supervisor of an industrial unit in east Delhi’s Friends colony was gunned down by bike-borne criminals when he tried to resist a robbery bid. The robbers fired multiple rounds and managed to flee with a bag containing approximately Rs 2.5 lakh in cash.
DCP (Shahdara) Meghna Yadav said that the victim was identified as Hariom Sharma (36) and a case of murder and under Arms Act registered.
The complainant, Jhurai Lal who works at a copper unit along with Sharma, told cops that Sharma was asked to take the cash bag to the owner’s house. “I handed him the bag of cash and he stepped out of the building with a security guard, Vinay. A few seconds later, I heard some loud bursts outside the factory’s gate,” Lal told cops.
The men inside the factory saw CCTV screens and saw two men involved in a scuffle with Sharma. When they went outside, they saw Sharma, bleeding from multiple gun shots but still holding to the money bag. Seeing the workers, one of the men threatened to shoot them and his associate snatched the bag from Sharma before they both fled on a motorcycle.
Sharma was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The investigating teams suspect that an insider may be involved as the robbers appeared to be waiting nearby for Sharma to get out of the factory with the cash bag.
The workers told cops that Sharma was a trusted aide of the factory’s owner and was responsible for handling the cash.
