NSUI starts campaign for students’ concerns
Atul Chaturvedi | TNN | Jan 5, 2019, 10:22 ISTGUWAHATI: National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the students’ wing of Congress, on Friday launched its ‘Behtar Bharat’ campaign at the Cotton University here. Assam Congress in charge Harish Rawat, Assam PCC president, Ripun Bora, leader of the opposition at the state assembly Debabrata Saikia and All India Congress Committee (AICC) joint secretary and NSUI in charge Ruchi Gupta, among other dignitaries, were present at the launch.
The goal of the campaign is to give a platform to the students of Assam to air their grievances and make their concerns a part of Congress’s national agenda ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The campaign wants to give equal educational opportunities to everyone. Among its other proposals are a demand to set up a students rights commission, a call to end corruption in examinations, free education for women, reducing fees, increasing seats in educational institutions and expanding hostel capacity.
Under the initiative, students will be able to speak directly to the Congress leadership and set the national agenda. Students can post their online on the official campaign website and extend support to the initiative by giving a missed call on a designated number.
While speaking during the launch of the ‘Behtar Bharat’ initiative at the Sudmersen Hall of Cotton University, Rawat said, “Rahul Gandhi is firm on incorporating the concerns of students in the party’s national agenda.” tnn
