Pedro Cruz, 60, was the person who tried to toss the bag of food to the man who found himself stuck in the tracks.

'He tried to jump down [on the tracks] and get the food. But then boom, he fell,' Cruz said of this friend. 'He fell right behind the food.'

Cruz said he tried to reach his friend before the train came speeding down the tracks.

'I jumped down after him. I couldn’t get him,' Cruz said.

Unable to immediately free his friend, Cruz said he tried to alert the train to stop, but couldn't make it happen.

'I said, "Yo! Yo! Yo! Lay down under the train!"' Cruz said, adding, 'He’s lucky because he got in the track underneath the train.'

Several other good Samaritans also swarned to the tracks to try to help.

'We all rushed down there,' James Agyeman, a 23-year-old straphanger, said. 'I was really scared. All of us tried to wave down the conductor, but he was close.'

Another witness from the Bronx described the look of shock on the person running the train as it passed over the man.

'I saw the conductor’s face and it was all red,' Roy Gomez, 27, said. 'He looked shocked. This s**t is crazy.'

Following several calls to 911, emergency responders arrived on the scene to find the man stuck between the track and the train.

He was able to walk away uninjured after police and firefighters helped him to safety, authorities said.

Officials took the man to Harlem Hospital as a precaution measury, but he is expected to be fine.
