Two men killed and 12 people injured on WA roads in less than 24 hours
Police are investigating a string of car crashes on WA roads that have left two men dead and 12 people, including eight children, in hospital over the past 24 hours.
On Friday, about 11.40am, a man driving a silver Toyota Hilux rear-ended a white Mazda at the intersection of Reid Highway and Erindale Road in Balcatta.
The collision forced the Mazda off the road, with extensive damage, before the Hilux then rear-ended another four-wheel-drive standing at the traffic lights.
Everyone in the Mazda – a 37 year old male driver, 37-year-old female passenger, and three children in the back – were taken to hospital. A 12-year-old boy received multiple injuries and the woman, reportedly pregnant, had to be cut free from the wreckage.
Less than an hour later, about 12.30pm, a Toyota Echo hatchback and Nissan Patrol four-wheel drive collided at the Kargotich Road and Mundijong Road intersection, Mundijong.
The 44-year-old man driving the Echo died.
The Nissan Patrol rolled and the occupants – a male driver, his female passenger and their five children – were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
That night, around 10pm, a 21-year-old Bertram man was driving a Ford Focus hatchback west along Ridge Hill Road approaching Midland Road, Maida Vale, when he lost control and hit a tree.
He was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital with serious injuries.
Then, around 5am Saturday, a Hyundai Getz rolled on Chapman Valley Road, near Carnalea Road, Moresby, coming to rest in a roadside field.
An 18-year-old man was flung from the vehicle and died as a result of his injuries.
