MIM MLA Mumtaz Ahmed Khan to be Pro-tem Speaker

The new Legislative Assembly will commence its proceedings on January 17.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said that in the wake of the landslide victory given by people to his party, Telangana Rashtra Samithi, it had been decided to commence the Assembly proceedings during the auspicious ‘Uttarayana’ days.

The new Assembly would meet for a four-day session from January 17 to 20.

The Assembly proceedings would commence at 11.30 am, presided over by Pro-tem Speaker, and then newly elected MLAs would take the oath. In the afternoon, an official lunch would be hosted for the MLAs on the lawns of the Council Hall of the Jubilee Hall.

The same day, schedule of election to the Post of Speaker would be announced and the nomination process would commence. The election of Speaker would be held the next day, January 18, followed by the declaration of result. The Leader of the House, Chief Minister, and Leader of Opposition would escort the newly elected Speaker to the chair. Later, the Assembly proceedings would continue with the newly elected Speaker in chair.

The Speaker would conduct the Business Advisory Council meeting after the House is adjourned and would formally take a decision on the Governor’s address. On January 19, the Governor would address the House and the next day the House would introduce the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address and adopt the same.

Oath for Pro-tem Speaker

Senior most MLA from the Charminar constituency Mumtaz Ahmed Khan of the AIMIM would take the oath of office of Pro-tem Speaker in Raj Bhavan on January 16 ahead of the commencement of the new Legislative Assembly proceedings on January 17.

Governor E. S. L.Narasimhan would administer the oath to the Pro-tem Speaker.
