Five teenage girls die in escape room blaze in Poland
Warsaw: Five teenage girls have died in northern Poland in a fire during an escape room game, the PAP news agency reported, citing a fire department spokesman.
One other person, a 25-year-old man, escaped the blaze in the northern Polish town of Koszalin west of Gdansk, according to the report. He was hospitalised with serious burns.
The group was celebrating a birthday on Friday. What caused the fire has not been determined.
The objective of an escape room game is to solve a number of puzzles in order to get out of a locked room.
Polish President Andrzej Duda spoke of a "tragedy" on Twitter.
Interior Minister Joachim Brudzinski said the victims were around 15 years old.
He said fire regulations at similar facilities across the country will be reviewed.
An investigation into the cause of the blaze has been launched.
The town's mayor has declared Sunday a day of mourning.
