A dedication through paintings

Solo painting exhibition ‘Paint-O-Poetry’ by dental surgeon and artist Guruprasad Kapadi is going on at Kala Academy, Panaji. NT BUZZ brings you the details

Many artists interpret art in different ways. To some it is a way to channelise their creativity, while to others it is a medium to seek an escape. For dental surgeon from Bicholim, Guruprasad Kapadi, painting is completely a different state of solidification of meditation. He feels that the canvas and paints are silent until they come in contact. After which, the art does most of the talking, as it is filled with a lot of emotions and feelings. Through this practice he finds solace every time he picks up the brush and paints.

At the Paint-O-Poetry exhibition he will be displaying 60 paintings. The exhibition is dedicated to late advocate Satish Sonak whom he considered a close friend and a mentor. “For me Satish was an authentic individual who had immense compassion and love for humanity. He was not only a friend to me but was my guide. He has always worked towards the benefit of the downtrodden and underprivileged people. His work was a selfless act and that is exactly what I want to show through my paintings,” says Kapadi, who believes that he has inherited art from his father who also was an artist and a former student of Sir Jamsetjee Jeejebhoy School of Art, Mumbai.

Through this exhibition he wishes to show how he perceives human life. He believes that human life is a poetry that depicts a flow and rhythm and has different colours and shades. “The exhibition is a humble effort to have a point of contact with the ultimate,” he adds.

In his late 40s Kapadi started painting as a hobby, little did he know that his hobby would turn into his passion and he went on to put a solo exhibition through which he raised money for an orphanage. He also started a school Keshav Seva Sadhana for the special children in Goa. His collection of poems was also released in form of album ‘Bhava Vishwas Sadhakache’ sung by renowned vocalist, Suresh Wadkar.

(The exhibition will be open till today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Kala Academy, Panaji. The closing cermeony will be done at the hands of secretary of art and culture, Daulat Hawaldar at 6 p.m.)
