Polls to 3 autonomous councils on January 21
TNN | Jan 5, 2019, 10:40 ISTGUWAHATI: State Election Commission on Friday announced that elections to the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC), Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council (SKAC) and Mising Autonomous Council (MAC) will be held on January 21. Counting will be held on January 28.
The last date for filing nomination for the upcoming autonomous council elections is January 11. Candidatures can be withdrawn till January 14. Scrutiny of nomination papers and publication of the list of valid nominated candidates will be on January 12. January 22 has been fixed as the date of repolling.
There are 36 constituencies under RHAC, of which nine are unreserved, two for women in unreserved category and three seats for women in the ST category. Under SKAC, there are 26 constituencies of which five are unreserved. One seat is for general category and five are reserved for women under ST category. MAC has 36 constituencies, of which nine are unreserved, two for women in unreserved category and four for women in ST category.
The three autonomous councils were created by state legislation for the socio-economic, educational and cultural advancement of tribes.
