SAIL, RINL provided employment to 35,000 people

New Delhi, Two public sector steel manufacturing companies — Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) — under the Ministry of Steel have provided employment to over 35 thousand persons under displaced category.

In Vishakhapatnam Steel Plant of RINL(RINL-VSP), 7,845 people were given employment as against commitment of 5,000, official sources said recently.

In Bhilai Steel Plant (SAIL) 4,468 people, Rourkela Steel Plant (SAIL), 6,486, Bokaro Steel Plant (SAIL) 16,000(approx) and Salem Steel Plant (SAIL) 214 persons were provided employment.

They have been provided employment against regular grades in the pay scales earmarked for the grades and the wages are paid as per Company Rules. Data about number of displaced persons in setting of private steel plants is not maintained in the Ministry of Steel.

In Vishakhapatnam Steel Plant, 16,850 are identified as displaced and all of them have been rehabilitated in four rehabilitation colonies developed by the Andhra Pradesh Government, the sources said.

These colonies have amenities like drinking water, roads, street lights, school health centres and community centers. He said land for setting up of public sector plants, is acquired by the State Government concerned as per the provisions of Land Acquisition Act.

The rehabilitation, compensation and other issues of displaced persons are also dealt by the competent authority under the Land and Rehabilitation policies of the state government concerned.
