HYDERABAD: A 35-year-old man was bludgeoned to death by his friend following a small quarrel at Jeedimetla on Thursday.

The deceased, Naveen Kumar, was a resident of Shapur Nagar in Jeedimetla, where the incident took place. At around 11pm on Thursday, Naveen had an argument with his friend Bharat while walking back home after a drink.

"The victim had an argument with the accused about purchasing liquor. An enraged Bharat picked up a piece of rock and smashed Naveen's head. The victim bled to death," said Jeedimetla inspector P Ramana Reddy.

The deceased, the police officer added, was a property offender. He was accused in chain snatching and burglary cases. A suspect sheet is open against him in Jeedimetla police station. "We are verifying if the accused also has a criminal history," the inspector said.

Bharat, who was on the run since the incident, was arrested on Friday.
