Bopanna is ranked 18th in the doubles ranking while Sharan is ranked fourth.
After having gone trophy-less in 2018, it was a crucial title for both. Although unseeded and ranked lower than the Indians, the pair from England made the home champions suffer. However, the Indians proved to be stronger despite being pushed to the brink in their last two matches.
The Indian duo had faced each other in the Chennai Open 2017 where Bopanna had partnered with Jeevan N and had defeated Sharan who was playing with his then long-term partner Purav Raja.
The Indian pair will now be seen at their first Grand Slam together in 10 days’ time in Australia.
