ROHTAK: The Bhiwani police have decided to go in for a bone ossification test to verify the age of a young girl from Odisha who has claimed to be 15 years old. The girl has told the cops that she was sold off to her husband in November by a relative.

Following the allegations levelled by the girl, police had registered a case of rape, illegal confinement, child trafficking, child marriage and under sections of the SC/ST Act against the girl’s supposed husband and mother-in-law on Thursday.

Deputy superintendent of police Virender Singh, who is overseeing investigations into the case, said they were probing the allegations from all angles.

The girl had alleged that her uncle brought her from Odisha to Bhiwani on the pretext of meeting a relative, but he sold her to the accused for Rs 2 lakh.

“The team also checked the video of the girl’s marriage that took place at a local dharmshala in the presence of hundreds of people. It did not look like as if the marriage was forced upon on her,” police said.

The DSP told TOI that the girl’s father had been informed about the case and asked to reach Bhiwani to record his statement. He was also asked to produce her birth certificate to support the claim of her being a minor.

The girl has claimed that she is aged 15. She alleged that her uncle brought her in a train to Bhiwani two months ago. The incident came to light a few days ago, when the girl jumped from the first floor of the house of the accused to escape. A neighbour who saw her jump informed the police.
